First of all, I would like to say that save technological advances, I really don't believe that we've got any more originality. Sure - yes, we do have people writing "new material"- new books, and whatnot, but its all "piggy-backing" off of someone else's idea or they were inspired by an idea that someone else had. For instance, to think that Disney's Mickey Mouse is completely NOT original - it may make some fans extremely upset. However, if we examine most of Disney's Material it is pretty much ALL not original (especially when it comes to the story lines).
With that said, I'm having a spot of trouble coming up with something, you know, original for my sampling project, due Monday - Any suggestions? ;)

I think it is tough to say that NOTHING is original anymore. By that logic there was never a time when anything was original. It is kind of like in the early 20th century when the petition to close the patent office was made because "everything the human race will ever need has already been invented."
But in the other light, nothing can really be created--but transformed from a preexisting object. Solve this mystery of life and we can all stop taking 201.
I am just wondering if you feel that anything was ever truly that original at any period in time. I tend to think that all ideas start fairly small and inconspicuously, and they eventually grow through numerous permutations. I think that there have been sparks of tremendous ingenuity at verious points in history, but overall, it seems like ideas form slowly by growing from what has already been conceived. It is similar to sediment increasing with time o create completely new levels that grew from the old ones.
